VPVD is responsible for evaluation of egg adapted and tissue culture adapted living attenuated viral poultry vaccines either imported or locally produced vaccines.
The evaluation process depends on titration of these vaccines (Potency test) in either SPF-Embryonated Chickens Eggs (EID50) or Tissue culture cell lines (TCID50) (According to the type of tested vaccines).
Also the vaccines are evaluated by inoculation in Specific Pathogen Free Chickens (Efficacy test) and the antibody titres were measured by using Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), Haemagglutination Inhibition (HI) test, Polymerase chain Reaction (PCR) and challenge test.
VPVD is accredited by EGAC for ISO 17025 in 3 methods:
* Assay of virus content using egg inoculation for egg adapted poultry viral vaccines.
* Assay of virus content using tissue culture for tissue culture adapted Poultry viral vaccines.
* Titration of Live infectious bronchitis vaccine using Polymerase chain Reaction (PCR).
